Strawberry Fields Forever

Oh the glories of strawberry picking time!!! We took advantage of the sun this morning to make our annual trek to the farm (where I worked summers as a teen!!) to load up on the lucious red berries. I love how their sweet aroma fills the kitchen!




It must be the year of the mutant strawberry...there were tons of misshapen fruits...
Then the boys found this one (center and bottom) that they dubbed, "The Behemoth."
After a bit more picking (and throwing berries at each other *ahem*) we headed for home. Now to get them cleaned and cut up.....

FOR TODAY, Monday June 30, 2008...

Outside My Window...The sun is actually shining for a few minutes anyway, until another storm moves in
I am thinking...it will be another frizzy hair day with all these storms
I am thankful for...a friend who offered me an early birthday present--to watch my little ones for a day so I can finish my paperwork!
From the kitchen...boiled eggs await for the kids' breakfasts...they love them
I am wearing...capris and a t-shirt, make-up and wet hair
I am creating...a new perspective
I am going...to the strawberry fields today, hopefully between storms
I am reading...my first issue of Faith and Family magazine--it's great!!
I am hoping...My mother and father-in-law have a wonderful 46th anniversary! (and that my daughter will soon have no pain or swelling from her wisdom teeth extractions)

I am hearing...Star Wars battles re-enacted in my house as my boys play with their cousin who stayed over last night.."Regroup! Regroup!......Stormtroopers!!"
Around the house...I notice many areas that need some organizing help this summer
One of my favorite things...Seeing the mailman, UPS, Fedex men walking to my door carrying boxes of books containing new curricula !!
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:more paperwork, strawberry picking, more tooth extractions (for oldest son this time), celebrate my Mom's birthday, turn 43!!!

Unusual sighting!!

In my last post I mentioned seeing a mother moose with her twin calves in Unity, NH. Only the second moose sighting of my whole life!!

On Friday, there was another highly unusual sighting in the teeny tiny town of Unity. It seems two donkeys who have been known to be quite cantankerous and spiteful to each other were seen making many unusually friendly gestures....it was quite odd and highly suspicious. Some witnesses were quite touched by this show of unity in Unity. Others remained skeptical (rightly so in my opinion!) of these two unpleasant mules...

As for me, I say, NEVER trust a donkey (or vote for one either!)....

....you see more than one moose per month!!

We were driving through Unity, NH a few weeks ago and a mom moose crossed the road in front of me. Following her were twin calves!!! This is not my picture....I wasn't fast enough to take one...but what a sight! The three littles were in the back of the van and they were very excited.

Then this morning, as I was yelling at...umm..I mean, helping my teenage son pick up the garbage a cat strewed all over the porch(grr...cats!) I heard a big crashing sound. My son looked at me and said, "Um, MOM! That was a moose!" I guess it had been roaming around the yard for a while (the neighbor said) and circled our house before we scared it away.

We traveled all the way up to Pittsburg, NH once (near Canada--moose country) and never saw one. Now we have seen 4 in the space of a month. Must be my new perfume... Eau de Swamp.......;)

Outside My Window...it is wet and peaceful, the big thunderstorm that woke me up has ended, along with its accompanying deluge (where's Noah when you need him?)
I am thinking...about activities I want to do with my children to create summer memories...day trips, beach, maybe even camping!
I am thankful for...a roof that doesen't leak!
From the kitchen...for dinner it will be grilled chicken, potato salad and broccoli
I am wearing...shorts, tshirt, barefeet and frizzy hair from all the rain!
I am creating...order out of chaos (well...trying..)
I am going...to get very wet running all my errands today! It's raining again.
I am reading...Anatomy and Physiology for Dummies, previewing it for my soon-to-be 11th grader to use next fall.
I am hoping...potty training my soon-to-be 3 year old will be quick and easy (wishful thinking?)
I am hearing...the ever-present hum of the washer and dryer, rain pouring down on the roof, and the tinkle of legos as the boys and their sister dig and search through the bucket for just the right piece
Around the house...there is a lot of dust, which will be cleaned up today!
One of my favorite things...strawberries, which are ready to pick!
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: soccer and Babe Ruth games, wisdom teeth extractions, lots of errands...
