Sweet Words

This mini Mass kit arrived in the mail today!! It is so beautiful. Ethan, Sam and Annie eagerly "helped" me unwrap it all. The boys, feeling quite important and serious, explained what all the items were to their little sister. I was delighted to see them enthusiastically exploring the contents of the box. I ordered the kit, of course, to help foster any priestly vocation that any of my boys may have, but also to encourage Ethan, who quit altar serving because he was too nervous.

As the boys carefully unwrapped the items, I explained that we would be having some "lessons" about what each item is and how it is used during the Mass. I raised the chalice and the boys, melting my heart with each word, recited, in unison, the consecration prayer for the Precious Blood. *sniff* Then Ethan said, "I'll be the priest," and Sammy responded, "I'll be the altar boy."

Ahhh, from your lips to God's ears, my sweet sons.

But does he have Spidey-sense?

At Mass last night, for the feast of the Immaculate Conception, I was explaining to 3 year old daughter (as I do at most Masses) what happens at the Consecration.
"Watch. Fr. Shawn is going to change the bread into the Body of Jesus. Listen for the words."
She obediently turns her gaze to the altar.
I use the same words for the wine as it becomes the Precious Blood.
When the Consecration is over, she turns to me and in her loud 3-year-old "whisper" says,
"Mommy, Father Shawn has POWER!"
