I suppose...

I suppose when you live in New England and a big, surprising October snowstorm has pummeled the region, you should blog about it.  I mean, it's kind of expected, right?
It was big news around here.
Record-breaking, even.
So, here goes:

It snowed. A lot. Eight and a half inches here.  It's cold, messy and wet.  And. Much. Too. Early.

There.  I did it.
Now, could we please get back to autumn for, oh, say 7 weeks or so???
Pretty please?

More Blizzard pics

My brave little New Englanders decided to try out their Christmas hats, gloves, snow pants and sleds this morning during the great Blizzard of 2010.  Little princess, heading out with only her eyes exposed to the elements, let out a high pitched squeal as she sank up to her hips in the deep snow.
As you can see from these pictures, visibility was not good.  These pics were taken around 11 a.m.-- not at dusk, as the lighting would suggest.  The kids had a blast, especially when their daddy showed up to plow us out.  Poor daddy, he has been out plowing since about 3am.  Once the snow stops, he will have to go out and do it all over again!  He's tired. And not as thrilled about the storm as the kids are.
It's hard to tell how much snow we have, since it has been blowing and drifting.  On our deck, it looks like close to 2 ft!
Up to her hips!

She fell and almost disappeared!

Just snow

Thank you, Jesus, for a warm shelter from the storm, for hot food and drinks, and for the company of my family.  Please protect and bless all those who are cold, hungry and alone.

Blowing,
Drifting,
Howling,
Piling.

Biting,
Freezing,
Nipping,
Stinging.

The poor grill lost its cover sometime during the night

Notice the amount of snow on the picnic table--it's still snowing, too!!

Snow day?

I awoke before 6am this morning to check on the snow situation. It wasn't doing much. I logged onto our local news website and every school and function to the north, south, east and west of us was canceled today...over 500 cancellations. So, I decided it would be prudent to cancel our homeschool co-op meeting today. I sent out a quick email and snuggled back into bed.
It was a given, right? Places that don't get snow were getting snow, and lots of it. New England was going to get hit hard....and it did....except right here in southwest New Hampshire. We got one inch of snow!!!! About 20 miles to the south of us, it was a mess. We just happened to be in some happy convergence of weather ingredients and the storm slid right past us. God has been merciful to me, a complainer about the snow. I am unworthy, but so grateful.
